April 23 to June 18
Thursdays 3-4PM

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we are attempting to give some instruction to maintain your painting practice where you live. I will be creating video demos of painting exercises that I hope you will allow you to work on independently. There will be online group chats where we can discuss successes or difficulties you may have encountered while working on the exercise.

For those who have taken classes with me before, you will only need two more items than what was needed prior. They are a place to work and an easel of some sort although working from a table is fine. We will be exploring aspects of oil painting. Basic design using only black and white up to full colour. I will give demos on the different stages of a painting. We will be discussing best practices, safe handling and materials. Be prepared to have photographs or still life to work from. Suggestions will be provided. We will be working in a solvent free manner.

Materials
-Oil Paints- Artist grade if possible, but student grade paints will work too. Gamblin makes a brand called 1980 which is good:
-Titanium White, Ivory Black, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson (permanent if possible), Cadmium Yellow light, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue
-3 to 4 Canvas boards or canvases 12x16 is a good size.
-Variety of oil painting brushes. Bristle or synthetic
-Palette knife
-Inexpensive linseed oil.
-2 cleaned tuna cans -1 large jar with a lid.
-Plenty of paper towels
-Palette, wood is recommended. Disposable is fine. If using a new wooden palette rub linseed oil into it and allow it to dry. At least two coats.

** We have a limited supply of materials for artists who have access needs and require basic studio materials (small tubes of primary colours, brushes, and linseed oil). Please identify in your registration notes if you are in need of these supplies and a kit will be mailed to you. Please ensure your current address is up to date in your account.**
