Combining the technical rigour of botanical illustration with insight into how wild plants thrive in urban settings, this captivating series of workshops focuses on a different wild plant and different drawing or watercolour technique each week.

Materials: Watercolour paper Watercolour paints Brushes Painter’s tape Paper towel Wax candle or white crayon Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover Graphite pencils Eraser Pencil sharpener Black illustration pens (micron or staedtler are the best)

About the instructor: Marjan Verstappen visual artist and art educator. She specializes in teaching techniques in drawing, painting and sculpture to children, youth, adults and seniors. In her teaching, she shares her enthusiasm for the beauty in everyday life, and she strives to help my students discover it through their art. Her personal visual art practice involves painting, sculpture and photography. Notable exhibitions of note include Every. Now. Then: Reframing Nationhood (Art Gallery of Ontario), INSTRUMENTA II (National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta) Atlas of Nowhere (Ashburton Art Gallery, New Zealand) and Know The Ways (Flux Factory, NYC). Marjan Verstappen grew up in New Zealand and moved to Canada in 2012.
