April 21 to June 9
Thursday 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM

Experience nature as a foundation to create from. Heather will guide us in a nature meditation to help raise awareness to the amazing connections we all have to the elements and to nature, and what a great support this can be for our artistic practice. She’ll share some Indigenous teachings about the elements and her beautiful experiences in nature.

Be inspired by connecting with other creatives in community and by sharing your creations. This approach to creating can help with feeling more connected, a sense of community, a greater understanding of how supported we are every day, and an overall sense of well being.

Materials: Device with internet access, and you are welcome to bring whatever materials you want to bring to class and to create in whatever medium you want to. Prompts will be provided for participants that want them, otherwise you can create whatever you want to create, as all is optional. If you have any access or material needs, please let Cynella know.

About the instructor: Heather Clear Wind is a Two Spirit, Nehiyaw Cree, Métis, Celtic, Published Poet, Writer, Transdisciplinary Artist, Musician and more.

She is an intergenerational Indian Residential School survivor who is gender fluid, amazingly-abled and neurodiverse. Her soul purpose on the planet is helping people, and her focus is on how can she help seven generations forward.

Her self-expression in art, poetry, music and ceremony seeks to reconnect people to nature and to the elements and to what an amazing support they are. They are her wahkohtowin ᐊᐧᐦᑯᐦᑐᐃᐧᐣ (community) and are what helped her survive through the negative impacts of colonization, when humans failed her growing up. In some of her creations she strives to raise awareness about Indigenous issues and the true history of Canada, as she feels we can’t heal from what we don’t know.

She is feeling urgently compelled to move her analog visual art to digital, to capture the essence of nature and the elements for the next seven generations, before it is too late to do so. She wants to indigenize digital and in so doing, positively influence AI (as in microcosm – macrocosm) so that as it evolves, it will always consider safe-guarding life and the planet.

She chooses to host gatherings online (with the camera off). This is mainly for safety reasons as she was in human trafficking as a child (so she doesn’t share her identity online), but she also chooses to do this as an act of decolonization. She welcomes you to be on or off camera (as in whatever works best for you) and to share your creations (on camera for those that want to).
