Instructor: Sarah Magni
May 11- June 29, Thursday, 6PM-8PM
Class Description: In this course you will learn to turn your personal stories into a play script. This course is your opportunity to own and claim your stories and create them into works of art that you can hold on to, share and continue to work on and adapt going forward. You will leave with a draft of a script that is all yours. By the end of the course you will learn playwriting structure and formatting, playwriting techniques and literary devices. You will learn how to write from an autobiographical place and incorporate fictional elements. You will also learn the elements of constructing strong dialogues and monologues. You will officially become a playwright!
Materials: Pen, Notebook
About the instructor: Sarah Magni is a theatre artist, creator, writer, director, community arts facilitator, educator and researcher. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Thatz Showbiz Theatre Project; which uses theatre to educate, empower and ignite social change and flip the paradigm on whose stories get told by whom. She’s a classically trained singer and studied Musical Theatre in New York City but found she was constantly wanting to investigate how theatre could meet its fullest potential. Her work is grounded in theatre as an act of social justice, decolonial theatre and what she calls “radical accessibility.”
