Class Description: As artists and makers/creators, much of our work is done in solitude. We go deep inside ourselves, swim in our inner landscape to create our imagery. But the connection to community is also necessary. It is an age-old tradition for artists to meet together in a local cafe, bar or studio to share, trade ideas and collaborate. For this Artists' Cafe/Collective, we will come together to build a community of artists to enhance our practice. We will develop shared goals with the intention of supporting each other, inspiring each other and enjoying learning from each other. This collective is intended for artists who have already developed their skills and are looking to enhance their practice. Although primarily developed for visual artists, writers are also welcome. For some this might mean getting 'outside their own head', or finding the inspiration to create work more regularly. All goals are welcome and will enhance the group.
This collective is open to practicing visual artists with intermediate to advanced skills. Writers are also welcome.
Materials: No materials required. Artists may bring their own materials to use.
About the instructor: Athina (she/her) began her art training at OCAD, studied theatre design at the National Theatre School and completed a fine arts BFA and BEd at York University. After teaching visual arts at the high school level for 24 years, Athina is now pursuing her own creative practice, primarily in oil painting and branching out into digital art. She has a background in fabric art, mask-making, costume and set design and creation, props-making and scenic painting. Athina has extensive experience facilitating discussion groups and sharing/group check-ins. She is a member of Workman Arts.
